What I’ve Learned About Blogging

I hit it! This blog has officially been running for a year! So much has changed in my life since I started this blog. I moved into a new apartment, lost family members to cancer (it’s sad but true), started a Youtube segment, got engaged, and I’m about to graduate from college. It’s so surreal.

My first post was on November 6th, where I posted about the new journey of starting this blog. Most of the “goals” I posted back then hold true today. I have kinda lost some of my interest in fabrication however. Don’t get me wrong, I still love doing it, but it is not my first choice now when I think of creating things.

I’m now more addicted to board games then when I started this blog too. I have also got to talk to some great people thanks to this blog, and have even changed some of my opinions about the world thanks to their blogs and their stories.

Thanks to this blog, I have learned a lot about blogging, from reading other bloggers as well as from my own experience. I would like to share them with you today.

  • Be Yourself. Seriously though. If you try to write like a “professional”, then people will only see a robot. I have noticed that the post that I write when I am being myself get a better response. Plus, I feel much better about reading these posts myself. I have noticed that the bloggers I enjoy reading also stay…human, flawed with the troubles of everyday life, and beautiful for it.
  • Be Passionate. Whatever you choose to blog about, make sure it’s something you enjoy doing. Do you like debating with people? Start an opinionated blog. Do you enjoy taking pictures? Share them along with the story of the day you took them.  Make sure it’s something that will not take over your life, but will be a charming addition to it. Does that make sense?
  • Stay Consistent. I know, I know, I’m horrible about this one. I try to post about twice a week, sometimes more. There are some weeks where my life gets hectic and I forget. 😦 But as long as you keep posting, you’re working towards something.
  • Tell A Story. Yeah, I realize that this sounds weird. What I mean by this is your blog should be like a story. Stories show you situations you don’t know the solution to, and how to overcome them. Or at least one way to overcome the thing. Folks love a good story, so make one for them.

I know that I myself do not follow these “rules to great blogging,” but I hope in this next year I will be more open to y’all and become a better blogger, crafter, and artist!

When it comes down to it, I’m really thankful you all joined me on my journey! You guys are inspiring and I am very blessed for getting to have this experience. I can’t wait to see what this next year holds for me, the blog, and life in general. ❤
