Art: Drawings and Beyond, Blog, Fanart Friday

Fanart Friday: 1st Gen Starters

~A few weeks ago I worked on these Pokemon Starters and shared them on my social medias. Today I’m sharing a bit more of the story behind them.~

I tried hard to think of something witty to write as to why I drew the evolution trees of the first starters of Pokemon. The truth of the matter is that I wanted to draw them. Pokemon was a big part of my childhood, and I don’t think I can ever get tired of drawing them!

Sometimes art doesn’t need to have a deep meaning behind it. Sometimes it’s just a want to draw something that makes you happy.  And in this case, that was what it was.

Bulbasaur evolution
Grass Starter (Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur)

I must admit though that while I was working on them I wanted to figure out if this was an art style that I prefer. It’s a digital pencil for the outlines and a digital watercolor brush for the coloring.

Charmander evolution
Fire Starter (Charmander, charmeleon, and charizard)

I also accidentally went out of order in my excitement. I started with Bulbasaur, skipped Charmander, and went straight for Squirtle’s evolutionary tree. So as if you look at it that way you can kinda see the refinement of the outlining and coloring process.

Squirtle evolution
Water Starter (Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise)

It was a blast working on this series. I hope to try this art style out some more in the future and refine it some more. Until then, I plan to try out a few other art styles to help refine my style a little more.

Which one of the starters is your favorite and why?

Thanks for reading and hope to catch you next week!

Until Then,

Jessi, The ArtsyRobotz
